This last Monday marked another year of, you know, being alive on good ol planet Earth. I was kinda ho hum leading up to it because a.) my fiancée won’t be able to be here b.) and more importantly I felt like I wasn’t quite where I wanted to be as far as life goals/points. I feel better after taking in a bit of logic and realizing a.) setting my time schedule based on other people is silly and unproductive b.) I’m making plans, fixing things, and bettering myself. This is not time being wasted.
After shaking off birthday blues I went to see my friend and Hardest Working Person I Know TM Sean Padilla (aka The Cocker Spaniels) play at Reggie’s. Great music was had and fun times. If he happens to be playing near you you should go.
Basketball is back. I for one, is very excited.
Last Night’s Games:
Heat vs Celtics: Now before everybody freaks the hell about how “blerg” the Heat look (or waxing your erections); this is their first outing as a team against a very good defense who slows you down and forces you to play a half court game. Also, Wade played all of 3 preseason mins. They will play much better.
I do wonder if they could ever play better than the sum of their parts. They might not need to to win in May/June but I’m kinda selfish. I want to see them “full armed and operational”. Yeah they could win it all with James,Wade,Bosh just knocking everybody down but where’s the fun in that. I want to see sharp cuts, good spacing, utilizing the other guys. I want to see them as a team.
Rockets vs Lakers: This feels like what we can expect from both of these teams. Houston will hustle and work their butts off with Martin, Scola, and Brocks doing the heavy lifting (though Yao will be better as time goes on. (Also holy cow I’m glad Yao is back) ). The Lakers will coast against second tier playoff teams and lower (they’re going to bring with it against the elites) and do just enough to break out ahead. It’s not that I don’t think Houston can’t hang with them it just felt that they went through the motions a bit.
Game I’ll be Watching After Work:
Bulls Vs Thunder: Over the summer I was, well Bullish on the Bulls and bearish on the Bears. The Carlos Boozer injury dampened my spirits a bit but this should be a really good team. This game though could go either way. The loss of Boozer hurts on this one because the Bulls could use some reliable low post scoring against a tough defensive team. On the flipside though, Kevin Durant will get his but no one else really scares me though. I haven’t seen much of preseason Thunder games so I don’t know what new wrinkles they’ve added to keep teams from loading up on KD.
I really like the Thunder. Probably my second favorite team right now. I just don’t see them finishing higher than 5th in West. They remind me of the Bulls teams from a couple of years ago. Great defensive unit despite their age but an uneven offensive team.
I guess I should have split these into 2 separate post? *kanyeshrug*
